York Area Ag Hall of Fame display is officially opened at Wessels Living History Farm

YORK – “Fall on the Farm” was celebrated in several ways as two new inductees to the York Area Ag Hall of Fame were honored and many enjoyed the autumn weather at the Wessels Living History Farm.

This was the first time an induction ceremony into the Ag Hall of Fame has taken place at Wessels. That’s because the entire display of plaques honoring all 70 inductees has been moved to the history farm in order to be more publicly available. Since 1999, when the program was started by the York News-Times, the plaques had been displayed in the basement of the York County Courthouse.

A year ago, Wessels Living History Farm Director Hillary Mundt and York News-Times Managing Editor Melanie Wilkinson asked the county commissioners for permission to move the plaques to the Wessels Farm, in anticipation of eventually being housed in the new antique tractor display building that had yet to be constructed.

The commissioners agreed and the plaques were moved to a temporary display area in the basement of the church at Wessels.

Once the tractor building was completed, the permanent display was created and the first 68 plaques (honoring the people who have been inducted in the past) were installed.

Then, two more plaques joined the permanent display as the late Ken Klepper and Don Klute of Bradshaw were honored for their contributions to agriculture.
