Study says York needs ongoing new residential construction

The findings of a recently completed housing study strongly stress that York needs more new home construction on a regular basis over the course of many years.
The theme resonates from the multi-page study that was conducted regarding each community in York County and the county itself . . . and is directly tied to an effort to increase the workforce here as well.
“The low vacancy rate in York creates a condition where the housing market is not accessible for new residents or those interested in a different housing option within the community. The connection to the overall economic picture is best illustrated in the ability of employers to recruit and retain new employees; while there are jobs available in York, if a new employee cannot find a quality place to live and is forced to reside elsewhere, it is less likely that the employer will be able to retain the employee.
