Redevelopment of Journal Star building moves ahead
8 May 2017
The proposed redevelopment of the Lincoln Journal Star building at Ninth and P streets conforms to the City-County Comprehensive Plan, according to the City Council, in the first of several approvals required for redevelopment proposals.
The Newman Development Group of Vestal, New York, plans to redevelop the downtown corner into a 10-story, mixed-use building that includes retail space on the ground floor, parking on the lower level and second floor, offices on the third and fourth floors, and market-rate apartments on the top six stories.
These will be market-rate, fairly high-end housing, designed for urban professionals, said Tom Huston, Lincoln architect representing the developers, at a hearing on the project.
The company plans to negotiate with the city for about 340 additional parking spots in the city-owned Market Place Garage at 10th and Q streets.
