YORK – The York County Commissioners have approved a grant from the Visitors Improvement Fund for a beautification project in downtown Gresham.

York County Visitors Bureau Director Bob Sautter explained to the county board this week that the Gresham Main Street Improvement program will include the creation of a “memory park,” and they are requesting some funds.

The Visitors Improvement Fund is money generated by the lodging taxes in the county. It is used for projects that will draw people into the county and all its communities. The visitors bureau’s board reviews all grant applications and then makes recommendations to the commissioners who have the final say.

“There is an empty space on our main street,” explained Cindy Buss of Gresham. “We came up with the idea of a memory park and are in the process of a structure being built there. There will also be a sidewalk (ground surfacing) featuring commemorative bricks that people can buy that include family names and those funds are used as donations toward paying for the park.”
