New to the Seward County area, Scoular Company’s newest $50 million manufacturing plant, Petsource, is already hitting the ground running. Seward was recently recognized for the Scoular project as the Runner-up for Economic Impact Deal of the Year in the small division. Upon the groundbreaking, Seward County Chamber and Economic Development applied for the award through the Mid America Economic Development Council. Petsource will develop, procure, freeze-dry and package high-protein ingredients for pet food manufacturers. It is among the first in the country to bring these steps together under one roof, positioning itself as the go-to source for pet food companies: thus, creating the name ‘Petsource.’ The Mid America Economic Development Council gives out yearly awards in four categories – all of which have a small and large division. The Economic Impact Deal of the Year award recognizes projects that are making a large and measurable impact on a City, County or Region. This impact can affect capital investment, jobs, supplier network, economic impact or new partner incentives. For the Petsource project, all the above areas are being positively impacted in one way or another. This plant will produce about 100 new jobs in the Seward County area. “Having the addition of Petsource to the Seward County area will be a huge benefit to the regional economy as a whole,” Jonathan Jank, President of Seward County Chamber & Economic Development Partnership, said. “This company will be an invaluable asset and partner in the future.” Scoular’s Petsource is the first addition to the Seward/Lincoln Regional Rail Campus. This 305.63 acre property is located in Seward County and is shovel-ready, making the decision for Scoular to move on the opportunity that much easier. The building is set to be complete by fall of 2020 and is expected to start the hiring process in spring.
